"Onegai, otou-san!" The youngest boy pleaded among the crowd of three and one girl. His chubby cheeks puffed out in desperate attempt to catch some attention from his father.
"Iie." Saitou did not even bother to give his children a glance as his eyes scanned over the documents that he was laid out before him. It was one of those days for Saitou. He simply did not wish to go to work so he brought his work home. It was the same now that he thought about. But instead of constantly stuttering baka's running around it was noisy children and a pregnant wife. The man reached his gloved hand up and took a long drag of his cigarette, watching the ash glow firey red before dropping in a small tin plate.
The boys growled as their attempts were tossed aside. All eyes turned on the shy little girl who was slowly beginning to retreat. The eldest grabbed her gently and pushed her out in front of them. She starred wide-eyed at her father nervously as his ember eyes turned on her. The girl desperately tried to form words but all that came out was 'eep'. After a minute of starring down the big bad wolf she mustered up the courage to speak.
"Onegai, otou-san... Just one story?"
He let out a sigh and turned his hair to face him, his legs spread lightly and he leaned his chin against his knuckles. His sons had played dirty, using their sisters. All three of them knew that she had one him over. Otherwise, the little cocky bastards would not have been seated in a row in front of him already. Taking another drag of his cigratte he blew the smoke out, his lips causing it to take odd shapes..
"The moon was red, it had been a night for murder... The Shinsengumi were in great strength now that they evil and weak had been weeded out...."
"Okita, Izuka, and Todou will accompany the captain! The rest will follow me!" Hijikata thundered above the silent crowd of obedient warriors. Among that crowd was Saitou, but blessed with youth and his face a lot lesh sharp. The Vice-Captain turned his face to a round, man who sat with his arms folded and eyes closed. "Sir?"
Kondo pryed open his eyes and glanced at Hijikata but merely offered him a nod before rising. His voice had lost the cheerful humor it had among the crowd. Instead it boomed with authority and his eyes narrowed with the sight of victory just within the grasp of his hand. Holding onto his sword he spoke, the building itself quivering in fear. "We must thoroughly search every part of Ikedya this evening, gentle men. We are engaged in battle now. Our foes must be dead or in chains by dawn. You will pay dearly for any man you over look. I will see to it."
"Rise up in fight!" The man sprang to their feet at Hijikata's command, swords at the ready.
Exiting the Compound they began their march into Kyoto to the Ikedya Inn. People hid in their homes and some even screamed that the wolves were coming. Saitou had payed them no attention, for they should be called wolves. They were bloody and ruthless but all to say the people from the evil that they were creating. It wasn't long before they reached the inn. The been barged in, Okita first, expecting to see the Hitokiri somewhere inside the Inn. The blade sliced through a man who tried to push him down. Saitou waited with the others as commanded but it wasn't long before he heard the report that it was the Hitokiri guarding.
Kondou walked up the stairs with Okita at his side, the young samurai holding out his blade threateningly to the crowd of samurai that stood by candle light. Okita's blade swished foreward and the flame dissapated, along with half the candle. "You're all under arrest!" The men were not pleased, the blades would do the talking.
Kondou unsheathed his blade and stood in front of his men, Todou following suit. Something shifted and the attack began. Stell cut into flesh, blood splattered everyone and war cries replaced the gentle chirps of the crickets outside. One man was a coward to his own cause, fleeing out of a door way he cut from the wall. Okita smirked and jumped out the door off the roof to the ground in just enough time to bathe himself in the weaklings blood. Hearing Saitou's call the young boy dashed back in and took out three man at once. Hijikata called to remove Todo from the battle, a horrible gash to the man's side. Okita nodded and lifted the man with what strength the fragile boy had, dragging him outside. Two of the Patriots followed suit blades brandished. Okita held up his sword in defense but did not get a chance to move as a swiftly moving Saitou cut both me in half easily. He flicked off the blood and mounted his sword on his shoulders, narrowed eyes turned to them.
"Where was Katsura?"
"He's not here, the Assassin wasn't inside either!"
Saitou growled and one by one the dragged out the corpses. After examining each one they had came to the conclusion that Katsura was not among the meeting and that Miyabi had commited Seppuku. In the distantce he smelt a sweet fragrance.. White plums... Those that remained were burnt to a crisp as Kyoto had been set on fire...
The children starred in awe as Saitou leisurely leaned back in his chair and twisted out a cigarette bud. Without a word he turned back to his documents. The boys grinned from ear to ear and picked up their shinai, running outside to reinact the story that had just been told to them. The girl stood at her fathers side, examining him closely.
"Otou-san, where you Saitou?"
His head snapped up curiously and he starred at the child who was gingerly stroking her doll's hair. A smart girl.. For not even their mother knew of his bloody past, only the tales he had given to her at her request and those that she heard him repeat the boys. Picking up his daughter he softly kissed her forehead, setting her on his knee as he turned back to his paper work, his only response to that question was, "Aku Soku Zan." The famous saying of Saitou.
"Otou-san?"
"Hn."
"Was Okita-san handsome?"
The old wolf could not resist a smirk. Even in death Okita was winning the hearts of all the women. "Hai, but he'd much rather wed his sweets then any other bride." The girl giggled and kissed her father's cheek before running off to her mother.
